Shadow of Life


I was running in a wide open field. I heard the sound of my hooves. I was free.

My name is Holane. It means “Hove of the Horse.” I’m a tall fourteen year old with blond hair and brown eyes. I’ve never gone to school I live in an old farm by myself. My right hand has a flame tattoo going up it. I think it’s been there since I was born. I’ve lived with horses most of my life. What’s so special about me? I’m a horse daemon. It means I can change into a horse at will.
I sat it the rafters of the barn. I watched mice running around. I remembered the time when I saw a rat in the barn. It was the first rat here but as I watched it from my hiding spot it changed into a human. Then as it ran out of the barn I watched it change again.
I jumped down and walked to the field. I changed into a brown horse with a black mane. But as I ran I heard voices then out of the bushes a rope came flying at me! It had caught on my neck and as I pulled away more came and so did some people! But I was also part human. I lowered my head and backed up. The ropes came off. “Hey! Get back here!” I head one guy yell as I ran the other way. I ran to the barn but I knew they would come after me.
I grabbed my backpack and ran out of the barn to the street. I ran down the street and saw a field! I ran into it and changed into a human. I jumped into the bushes just in time. I saw the people come into the field. “I swear it ran this way!” “No I told you it’s still in the barn!” “Well lets go back then.” Then they left. But I heard other voices too. “Did you freaking see that!?” “Oh my gosh! Another daemon!” “Were those daemon hunters?” I watched three kids around my age come out of the bushes. There was a boy with black hair, a girl with dirty blond hair and another boy with messy brown hair!
I tripped and fell out of my hiding spot. “Hey look!” I heard the girl call. They came over and helped me up. “Who are you?” the boy with black hair asked. “My name is Holane. Are you daemons too?” I don’t know why I asked that. “Ya, my name is Ty Lee and I’m a tiger daemon.” she said changing into a white tiger. “My name is Scaren and I’m a red tailed hawk.” he said changing into a hawk. “And my name is Sylon and I’m a rat daemon.” he said changing into a rat. Then they changed back. “I’ve seen you before! You were at that old barn and I watched you change into a rat!” I said looking at Sylon. “Oh that was a long time ago.” he said. “So are you a daemon?” asked Scaren. “Ya I’m a horse daemon.” I said changing into a horse. “Cool.” Ty Lee said.
“Well I guess we should decide were we’re going to sleep and everything.” Scaren said. “I know a good spot but those people just found me.” I suggested. “Well I think we could-” Ty Lee stoped. And I heard it too. It was those people again! “RUN!” Sylon yelled changing into a rat. I changed into a horse and saw as a hawk took off and a tiger ran past. I ran as fast as I could not looking back. I changed direction when we got into the forest and ran for the streets. I dodged cars and ran past stores. I ran so far I was starting to get tried!
I stoped and changed back. I saw a Scaren flying over me. He came and changed back in front of me. “Do you know where the others are?” he asked looking around. “I saw Ty Lee go up a tree but I don’t know where Sylon is.” I said. “Well let’s fid them and meet in the forest.” Scaren suggested changing back to a hawk and taking off.
We all met in the forest and decided to go back to Ty Lees old house. “Ok so no changing except for Scaren so he can keep watch.” Ty Lee instructed. We followed her to her house and we camped out there for the night.
The next morning we got Sylon to get some food with the little money we all had. “So now what?” Scaren asked chewing on some bread. “I guess we could look for the rest of the daemons and take down the hunters.” Suggested Ty Lee. “Ok so what other daemons are there?” I asked. “Well besides us I only know of the rabbit.” Ty Lee said. “Well I know there is a snake, a dolphin and a wolf.”  Scaren added. “Ok well now how do we find them? Do we put up posters? Are you a daemon? Do you have special powers? Ready to leave everything behind? Then call 1-800-DAEMON!” Said Sylon. Every one laughed. “We could just wait and see. That’s how we found each other.” Suggested Ty Lee. Then they attacked.
